Nivlo vs Dropbox in 2026: price per team, external partners and where files are stored
Nivlo compared with Dropbox Standard and Advanced: per-user vs flat pricing, receiving files from suppliers, share-link controls, RAW previews and EU data storage.
Daniel Robert Dinu, founder of Nivlo ·
The short answer: Dropbox is a great general-purpose cloud drive, priced per user. Nivlo is built for teams that receive, organise and deliver photos, videos and documents with clients and suppliers, at a flat price with unlimited users and files stored in the EU on every plan. Small teams that mostly sync their own files will be fine with Dropbox. Teams with many colleagues, agencies, photographers or journalists in the loop usually pay less and work more simply in Nivlo.
All Dropbox figures below come from Dropbox’s official pages, checked on 6 November 2026. Dropbox prices are those shown to European visitors with yearly billing, excluding VAT.

The free plans differ too: Dropbox Basic gives you 2 GB, Nivlo Free gives you 30 GB with unlimited users. Nivlo also has a Starter plan at €50 a month with 500 GB.
The real difference: who pays for a seat
Dropbox charges for every person on the team. That’s fair when everyone works in the account every day. It gets expensive when your workflow includes people who drop in occasionally: a colleague from sales who needs the logo, the agency uploading a campaign, the regional manager who approves a selection.
A quick example for a marketing team of 15 people:
- Dropbox Standard: 15 × €12 = €180 a month, from 3 TB.
- Nivlo Professional: €150 a month, 2 TB, and you can add the 16th, 30th or 50th person at no extra cost.
If you need lots of storage for few people, Dropbox gives more terabytes per euro. If you need many people around the same assets, a flat price wins.
Working with suppliers and clients
Both let people send you files without an account. With Dropbox you create a file request. With Nivlo you send an upload link, and files land straight in the project folder, next to the brief and earlier deliveries.
For delivery, both offer share links with a password and expiry date. Nivlo adds options that matter for visual assets: recipients get the web version (lighter) or the original, you can restrict a link to an email domain on Business and put your branding on share pages. You can change or delete a link at any time, and new files added to the folder show up in the same link.
Where files are stored
For many European companies this matters most. Dropbox stores data in the United States by default. EU storage is available only for teams on eligible plans with at least 10 licences and annual billing, after an individual review, and the move cannot be undone.
Nivlo stores files on dedicated servers in Germany and Finland, on every plan, including Free, and offers a data processing agreement (DPA) to every client.
When Dropbox is the better choice
- You mostly need to sync files between computers, for yourself and a small team.
- You use Dropbox Sign or PDF editing in your daily work.
- You work with huge single files: Dropbox accepts up to 2 TB per file.
- Few people, lots of storage: per-user pricing works in your favour.
When Nivlo is the better choice
- Many people around the same assets: colleagues from other departments, agencies, photographers, partners.
- You receive files as often as you send them.
- You review photos and videos together: comments on any file and timecoded feedback on video.
- You want files stored in the EU without minimum licence counts.

Frequently asked questions
Is Nivlo cheaper than Dropbox?
It depends on team size. Dropbox Standard costs €12 per user per month, so a team of 15 pays about €180 a month for 3 TB. Nivlo Professional costs €150 a month for 2 TB with unlimited users. For one or two people, Dropbox is cheaper; the more colleagues and partners you add, the more a flat price pays off.
Where does Dropbox store files for European companies?
By default, in the United States. Teams on eligible plans can request storage in the EU, but Dropbox requires at least 10 licences and annual billing, reviews each request individually and the move cannot be undone. Nivlo stores files on dedicated servers in Germany and Finland on every plan.
Can suppliers send me files without a Dropbox account?
Yes. Dropbox file requests work without an account and accept up to 250 GB per file on team plans. Nivlo upload links also work without an account and deliver files straight into the project folder you choose.
Do both preview RAW and PSD files in the browser?
Yes. Dropbox previews RAW files up to 200 MB or 50 megapixels and PSD up to 1 GB. Nivlo previews more than 50 formats, including RAW, PSD and PSB, and automatically creates lightweight video versions for fast playback.
When is Dropbox the better choice?
When you mainly need to sync personal and team files across computers, edit PDFs and collect signatures, or a very large file size limit (up to 2 TB per file). Nivlo is built for teams that receive, review and deliver visual assets with many external partners.
